Omizu and her twin Okumi are the spirits of a single girl, Kumi Mizu. She was a kind girl with a great life ahead of her, but she ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. While walking home from school on a rainy day, she happened to stumble upon a scene of fresh murder, the killer still present. She attempted to escape, but tripped over her heels and was left at the killer's mercy. The man slit her face from ear to ear and stabbed her a number of times before throwing her body into a rain gutter, where she slowly bled to death while being rained upon. Because of the way she died, her spirit was halved, becoming an ame-onna (rain woman) and a kuchisake-onna (slit-mouth woman).

Okumi takes the form of the vengeful side of Kumi Mizu, the part of her that wants revenge for her murder. She is quick to make biting comments and doesn't listen to others well. Her temper flares easily and she can tend to make rash decisions fueled by anger. When she is angered enough to fight with someone, she will remove her mask to reveal the long slit cut across her face from ear to ear.

Both Okumi and Omizu have a very close relation to another spirit, Kalehan, whom they have known for as long as they can remember. They will sometimes act as if he were their older brother, but their relationship stems far deeper than a family relationship.
